CCFT Spring 2008 Election F.A.Q.’s

1. When should I receive my ballot?

Ballots were placed in intercampus mail on Monday, 31 March 2008.  Intercampus mail is expected to take 2-3 days to reach individual faculty mail boxes at the North County, Arroyo High School and Nipomo High School Centers in the South County and on the SLO Campus.

2. What should I do if I do not receive my ballot by Friday, 04 April 2008?

First, check with your Division Assistant to verify incoming mail has been distributed to faculty mail boxes for the day.  Then, contact M. Basti at extension 2700 or by email mbasti@cuesta.edu if you have not received your ballot. If you were issued a new ballot and the original ballot shows up, please return it immediately to the Election Chair, M. Basti, Health Education, Room 1315, Bldg. 1300.

3. Where do I turn in my ballot?

After marking your ballot clearly with your votes, place your ballot in the small unmarked envelope provided, then place the small sealed envelope in the LARGE envelope provided w/ your name on it; sign your name across the sealed flap on the back of LARGE envelope only. Then hand deliver your ballot to one of the CCFT locked ballot boxes located in the Public Safety Office either at the SLO Campus, Building 6600 or at the North County Center in Room N1032 in the Naciemento/Wolf Building.  These offices are open from 07:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Faculty working at one of the South County Centers: you may return your ballot by intercampus mail (address: Public Safety Office, CCFT Ballot, Building 6600, SLO Campus) or by U.S. mail (address: Public Safety Office, CCFT Ballot, Building 6600, P.O. Box 8106, San Luis Obispo, CA 93403-8106). See ballot instructions.

4. If I am a Candidate, what am I allowed to do?

Candidates may campaign during times they are not regularly scheduled for governance, office hours, or classes. Candidates may send a web link to CCFT Web person Jill Schubert at webweaver@ccft.org to link their campaign web page to the CCFT Candidate web page. Note: this page may be discontinued after the election. Candidates are allowed to post printed material following the college policies for posting flyers in designated areas on campus. [Reference Board Policies 2755/R2755, 6510, & 7850/R7850]

5. If I am a Candidate, what am I not allowed to do?

Candidates are not allowed to use district equipment or supplies to create or publish campaign materials.  Candidates are not permitted to post printed campaign materials or campaign within 100 feet of the location of CCFT ballot boxes i.e., Public Safety Offices on the SLO Campus and at the North County Center.  Candidates are not permitted to send campaign messages on the CCFT listserv or voice mail distribution.  Candidates are not permitted to handle the ballots or interfere w/ the tabulation of the voting process. Candidates are not allowed to deface or damage college property with posted campaign materials.  Candidates are not allowed to post flyers or campaign materials in areas not approved according to the campus publicity guidelines. See Board Policy 6510.

6. As a candidate, is there a limit on the amount of money I may spend on campaigning?

No, there is no limit on the amount of money you may spend on campaign materials or activities; however, you should be prepared to submit receipts of any published or printed materials, campaign paraphernalia or activities, food or other campaign expenses to the Election Chair should evidence be required to verify non-district equipment and/or supplies were acquired.

    7. Who will be present at the counting/tabulating of the ballots?

Those allowed to be present during the counting and tabulating of the ballots include: The Election Committee of four, which includes the Election Chair; one observer designated by each candidate, if the candidate chooses to do so (see #8); and one Public Safety Officer.

    8. As a Candidate, may I be present for the counting of the ballots?

You have the option of submitting the name of one person of your choice to observe the counting of the ballots commencing at 3:15 p.m. on 16 April 2008.  Location on the SLO Campus is to be announced.  The name of your observer should be submitted to M. Basti in writing (email is acceptable) no later than Friday, 11 April 2008 by 4:00 p.m. No observers will be added to the list after the deadline, so it is critical that each candidate contact M. Basti by this date and time.  Observers must arrive on or before 3:15 p.m. and commit to attend the entire counting process.

    9. What is the role of the observer designated by the Candidate?

The observer is expected to remain silent during the entire counting/tabulation process.  The observer is expected to assist in the counting/tabulation process, if requested to do so, by the Election Chair.  It is imperative that absolutely no side-talking occur during the entire process.

    10. How will the results of the election be announced to the members?

The results of the election will be made available via the CCFT listserv and posted on the CCFT website http://www.ccft.org

    11. When will the results of the election be announced to the members?

The CCFT Executive Board has a regularly scheduled meeting on 17 April 2008.  The agenda for this meeting is expected to include the certification of the election results providing all criteria are met -  i.e., one candidate receives a majority of votes for each of the positions being elected.  The results of the election will be announced after this meeting.

    12. How do I report violations of any of the above campaign guidelines?

It is expected that any faculty member who becomes aware of any violations of the campaign guidelines listed above will bring the information to the attention of the Election Chair.  Reports of violations must be in writing and include date, time, location, person in violation, and witnesses, if any.  Facts must be clearly stated. Send or email reports of campaign violations to M. Basti, CCFT Secretary 2007-08, Election Chair, Health Education, Room 1315, Building 1300.  No phone or verbal reports will be accepted
