You should have a working knowledge of these items. Review them at www.ccft.org

How are Council Representatives elected?

Council Representatives are elected in the spring semester of every odd-numbered year by secret ballot of union members in each of the divisions ( college units). Representation shall be apportioned on the basis of one representative for each ten (10)--or fraction thereof-- full-time equivalent faculty positions within the division ( college unit). fraction or more over the basis of apportionment will entitle the division (college unit) to another representative.

What is my primary responsibility as a representative?

To attend Council of Reps/Member meetings in order to share information, ask questions, and offer advice to the Executive Board.

How important is it that I attend all meetings?

It is important that your division/department is represented at the meetings to gain and share information.

Do I need to consult my department/division before I vote on every issue?

You are chosen to represent your department/division. Therefore, sometimes it may be necessary to poll the members from your department/division, while at other times you will make the decision without direct consultation.

Should my department/ division have a time in its meetings devoted to a CCFT report?

Since Council Reps and members are now meeting together, having a division report is no longer necessary. If Reps choose to have division union meetings or reports or conduct polls on bargainable issues, it is important that only union members be present.

Who may call for a Council of Reps meeting?

The CCFT Executive Board usually calls for Council of Reps meetings; however, the membership of the Council of Representatives may call additional meetings by submitting to the Executive Board a petition signed by a simple majority of the Council.
