UNION NOTES
March 17, 2008
  • We entered our ccft.org website (Jill Schubert, designer) in the CFT Communication Awards for best website.  The winners will be announced at the convention, April 11-13.  Check out the site, recently updated. 
     
  • Part-timers: be sure to read the message on the part-time page from Jill, who is also your new Chair on the EB.
  • You might want to check out the March 10 article entitled “Art and the College Administrator” in Inside Higher Ed. Its focus is the current national assault on academic freedom and freedom of expression on college campuses.  Cuesta is referenced in the article. http://www.insidehighered.com/news/2008/03/10/art. 
     
  • Arbitration Update:  We spent approximately 50 hours this past week either in the hearing or preparing for it.  Phew!  We have two days scheduled this week.  We have been directed to say that arbitration is pending.
  • Thanks to the handful of you who showed up on Friday at 4:00 p.m. for the informal Q & A about the current state of issues involving the union.  You were small in number but mighty in darn good questions and comments. 
  • Dana Gough has been taking the lead in exploring CalPERS healthcare possibilities for our bargaining unit.  He plans on inviting a representative to meet with the EB very soon.  If it looks at all promising, we will have a presentation made to all faculty.

                From 3/17/08 - 4/30/08, for every auto/homeowner/renter/condo insurance quote Horace Mann gives a CCFT member (no obligation to buy), money will be donated to the union! Horace Mann partnered with "Paso Robles Public Educators" in 2007 and donated $1,000 to their union.  I will also be on the SLO campus on April 8, from 10-4 and on the NCC on April 15, from 10-4.  Rooms will be announced soon.
