A Message from the Part-Time Chair
CCFT Executive Board

Hello to All Cuesta Part-Timers,

It's an honor to once again be able to serve as the PT Chair on the CCFT Executive Board. I was last immersed in this role in the Spring semester of 2003; it's great to be back and I look forward to working with you through the next semesters. As your representative, I invite you to bring to me your Union concerns and questions - I hope only to enable you to find answers and resolutions.

My personal goals as PT Chair for this semester are to kick-start blog interactivity, initiate a new CCFT PT-er listerv, and conduct on-line surveys to build a better picture of who we are and what our PT needs might be (and of course, gather information and resources on how to respond to those needs!). If you have any input for this "goals" list, send it my way!

Too, it's important for us to be aware of what is happening for PTers at the state level; I'll endeavor to keep this webpage and the blog current on statewide issues.

On a more personal note, I'm in the Business Education Division and teach Computer Applications such as Dreamweaver (web design) and Photoshop. This semester I'm on both the NCC and SLO campuses. With eight years as a part-timer at Cuesta, I've worked with CCFT on the Negotiation Team (Fall 2002), was PT Chair (Spring, 2003), attended CFT Convention (Spring 2003) and the Union Leadership Institute (Summer 2007); too, I am the current website caretaker.

To contact me: Jill Schubert, jschuber@cuesta.edu, or x 4534.

Thanks, and I hope to hear from PT-ers, one and all!

Proposal to CFT to Change
60% Law to 67%

The CFT Part-time Committee has passed a resolution supporting a change in the "60% Law" that would allow California adjunct faculty to teach 67% of a full-time load. The committee is now ready to ask the support of CFT in pursuing this change in the Education Code at the state level. In order to gain CFTs sponsorship, several committees, made up of your local presidents, must approve this initiative.

Please take the time to talk to your union president about your views on this matter. Ask other part-timers on your campus how they feel about it and encourage them to share their perspective with the union leadership as well.

If you have any comments or questions this open listserve is a good place to bring them.
